It's no secret that Canadians love to complain about telecom. After years of enduring sky-high fees and simply ridiculous roaming rates, some Canadians thought they could let out a sigh of relief when the Harper government announced they would focus on the consumer and address roaming fees. However, as regal as the parliamentary event was, many questions are still left unanswered.
The main takeaway from last October's Throne Speech, though, was an acknowledgement that telecom fees are, indeed, too high. "Canadian families work hard to make ends meet, and every dollar counts. While companies will look out for their bottom line, our Government is looking out for everyday Canadians," the Governor General David Johnston said in his nationwide address. However, in terms of a concrete solution to this growing problem ... consumers are still waiting.
An alternative to excessive roaming fees
Perhaps the wait won't be too long with the entry of KnowRoaming, a new Canadian roaming mobile network operator. For more than a year the Toronto-based startup has been quietly preparing itself for its close-up and is gearing up to be a viable alternative to Canada's telecom heavy weights.
